The Society's first show was held on 12th August 1978, to celebrate the Society's 70th Anniversary. It was held in the Great Hall, Kensington New Town Hall in London. The Show Managers were Dr. & Mrs. Bentley, with Sue & Barry Kirk as Assistants. The Judges were Mrs. Rowena Alderton, Miss Sally Bridges, Mrs. L. McVady, Dr. Ivor Raleigh, Miss Marie Rodda and Mrs Joan Thompson. In competition were 19 Chinchilla males, 29 Chinchilla females, 36 Chinchilla kittens, 3 Silver Tabby males, 4 Silver Tabby females, 4 Silver Tabby kittens, 1 Black Smoke male, 8 Black Smoke females, 5 Black Smoke kittens, 2 Blue Smoke males and 1 Blue Smoke female, 7 Chinchilla neuters, 2 Silver Tabby neuters and 3 Smoke neuters. There were no Goldens or Exotics, as these breeds had not been recognised at that time.
